I have always loved to read, but sometimes I fall out of it, being busy with work, the house, and my kids. I am trying to reboot and restart my beloved hobby! If you are looking to do the same, I have gathered some of my favorite books from the past couple years that I would start reading and would not be able to stop!
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
This story is interesting and thrilling, and the first book I read by Gillian Flynn. It is about a couple named Nick and Amy, who to everyone, seems perfect on the outside. When Amy goes missing, lots of secrets about their marriage and themselves are uncovered. It has such a twist midway through the book, you will not believe it. I am pretty sure my mouth dropped open and I said “What?” out-loud to myself! It has a movie made about it, but I would make the argument to read the book first, and that the book is also much, much better!
Dark Places by Gillian Flynn
Another book by Gillian Flynn I liked! This one is also a mystery, and centers around Libby. When she was 7, her 2 sisters and mother were murdered, and her teenage brother was found guilty. Now being grown up, there is a group of people who think her brother is innocent and want Libby to give them details of what happened. So, for a fee, she dives back into her past. This has another twist you won’t see coming! This also has a movie about it you can feel free to check out, after you read the book!
Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn
As you can see, I kinda started to read all of Gillian Flynn’s books! Another mystery and thriller, Sharp Objects has a lot of twists and turns! Camille, a reporter, who has some own mental health struggles, is asked a to cover the story of some murders of young girls in her hometown. She is less than thrilled to return, and has some interesting relationships with her family. This has a TV series based on it, I have not watched it, but I reckon it would be good!
Girl on a Train by Paula Hawkins
This was one book I could not put down! I vividly remember reading this in just 2-3 days while on maternity leave with my son. I would feed and burp him and then just lay him on my shoulder to read until he woke back up! In this story, Rachel rides on a train everyday and looks at houses passing by. She starts to notice a couple who appears to be perfect, but one day she sees something and can’t stop thinking about it. She then gets sucked into their story and there is much more than it seems! This is also a movie, I have not watched it yet, but I’m sure it is good because Emily Blunt is in it and I love Emily Blunt.
Outlander Series by Diana Galbadon
This series, I started reading after I saw a preview for the T.V. series and it looked interesting to say the least. This story has something for everyone; romance, time-travel, magic, wars, and history! It has many major characters and minor ones as well, with many intersecting story lines going at once. I have read the first 6 books so far, they are quite long, but I think worth it! If you are looking for a story that will suck you in for months, maybe years, look no further!
I have to put a disclaimer on this post and say that I did read all the books first, before I watched any of the movies, and I think that is the way to go if you can. I also have been known to try and look ahead in books, especially if it is a mystery, and I would say to try and not do that if you can make yourself! Please check out one of these and let me know if you like them as much as I do!
